"Archipel Caravan" is an event drawing on the perspective Archipel has cultivated through numerous documentaries with creators and artists, exploring the essence of creativity found in Japanese pop culture.
This edition will focus on games, inviting creators active at the forefront of the industry in fields such as narrative, character design, music creation and more. Through a series of talk sessions, the event will delve into the process of game creation.
All sessions require a ticket to attend. Each session includes a 50-min talk, 10-min Q&A and a signing session afterwards. If you wish to attend a talk and the sign session following it, please purchase a ticket for the corresponding session through the LivePocket platform. Yusuke Kozaki, known for his work on Fire Emblem, No More Heroes, and Pokémon GO, and Shigenori Soejima, the artist behind many unforgettable characters in the Persona series, will come together for a special talk exploring the techniques of character design.
From the very first sketch to becoming characters beloved worldwide, they will share their creative process, sources of inspiration, and examine how character design shapes the overall game experience.
Hiroshi Kawaguchi, the composer behind iconic SEGA sounds for titles such as OutRun and Space Harrier, and Shoji Meguro, known for his compositions on the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio, will sit down for a special talk on the techniques and appeal of creating unforgettable game soundtracks.
They will explore how music shapes immersion in games, share insights into the creative process of sound & score design, and reflect on their past experiences during this special talk.
Yoko Taro, known for the NieR and Drakengard series, and Kotaro Uchikoshi, creator of the Zero Escape series and AI: The Somnium Files, will come together for a special talk focused on game narratives, world-building, and scenario writing.
How can one create worlds that are both disorienting and deeply emotional? Through personal anecdotes, sources of inspiration, and their creative processes, they will delve into the methods of storytelling that define their games.
Hideaki Itsuno, director of Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, and Fumihiko Yasuda of Team NINJA, known for the Nioh series, will join in a special conversation on their distinct approaches to action in games.
Drawing on their past experiences, they will explore their personal philosophies on action, how they translate their inspirations, and the techniques behind creating intensity and tension in gameplay.
Nicolas Doucet, the creative mind behind the Astro Bot series and head of Team ASOBI at Sony Interactive Entertainment, will deliver a special lecture on the making of one of the most acclaimed games in recent years, Astro Bot.
He will share how the team created characters that captivated players worldwide, developed innovative gameplay ideas, and brought them to life through their creative process and behind-the-scenes efforts. This talk will be conducted in English, with simultaneous interpretation available in Japanese.
Archipel Caravan is an event project born in 2023. Its aim is to explore the creativity found in Japanese pop culture through the eyes of its creators.
Archipel is a team creating documentaries about Japan's artists, creatives and culture.
Through our documentary portraits, we dived in the universe and minds of several creators across many genres, aiming at capturing the essence behind Japan's creativity. Archipel Caravan is the continuation of this work.
